Oklahoma is to American Quarter Horse racing

as Kentucky is to Thoroughbred racing.

Horse racing is woven into Oklahoma’s history and identity. The state itself was shaped by horsepower, from the 1889 Land Run that founded Oklahoma City to the modern-day excitement at Remington Park. Today, Remington Park draws millions of visitors each year for live racing, entertainment, and gaming, making it one of Oklahoma’s premier destinations. More than 50,000 Oklahomans are involved in the racing industry, which generates over $700 million annually and supports tens of thousands of jobs across agriculture, veterinary services, manufacturing, hospitality, and beyond.

Oklahoma breeds more elite American Quarter Horse sprinters than any other state—and is home to more horses than Kentucky. Nearly nine out of ten horses seen in Oklahoma pastures are Quarter Horses, many tracing their lineage to legendary racing bloodlines. With more than 35,000 Quarter Horse owners statewide, Oklahoma continues to lead the industry in breeding excellence. Each season, many of the nation’s top trainers, riders, owners, and breeders converge at Remington Park, reinforcing Oklahoma’s reputation as the epicenter of Quarter Horse racing.
